Information for Visitors
How to find us
ICMT is located on the second, third, and fourth floors of the Engineering Sciences Building (ESB) on the Urbana-Champaign campus of the University of Illinois. ESB is at the Southeast corner of the intersection of Springfield and Goodwin, 1101 West Springfield Avenue, Urbana, Illinois. (NOTE: This is NOT the mailing address.)
Springfield Avenue is a two-way road that runs east-west across Champaign and Urbana. The closest main intersection is Lincoln Avenue and Springfield. Use the Google map above to navigate to Urbana, navigate around town, and navigate the campus.
Metered parking is available on the street. Reserved parking may be available in the lot behind the building, upon request. The Illini Union and the Hampton Inn are a short walk away, so hotel guests may prefer to leave their cars there. The parking lot behind the building is a University lot that is available for free parking ONLY outside of regular office hours, which means any time except 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Walk up computers
Wireless is available in public places in Loomis, MRL, and ESB. More detailed information is available for Loomis, MRL, and ESB, the Illini Union, and all other campus buildings. If you have been assigned an office, it should have network access. Technology Services has a Guide for Guests and Visitors.
Only a few locations have public wireless; they include Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (one block south of Loomis) and Willard Airport.
The Physics and Astronomy Library is located in the Grainger Engineering Library. Plugin access for laptops is available there and they have Illinois networked computers available for limited time use. Grainger Engineering Library is a block west of ESB and has walk up computers on the internet available for public use.
Some services for visitors are available. The Main Library homepage allows searching of all library catalogs for books, journals, magazines, reserves, etc. Databases like Engineering Village (INSPEC, Compendex, and NTIS) may have restrictions for non-Illinois visitors, but they can be accessed from computers located in the library. The Physics and Astronomy Library homepage has many useful resources linked.
Many Ph.D. theses for recent Illinois graduates are available online.
The self-service copy machine/scanner is located in room 2105 ESB. The faculty and staff nearby can assist you if the door is locked.
