Application for a Travel Grant for Statphys27 (Buenos Aires, July 8-12, 2019)

Welcome to the application website for a travel grant to participate at the upcoming 27th International Conference on Statistical Physics, Statphys27, organized by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 8-12 July, 2019. We have secured funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation for partial support for travel of up to $1,000 U.S. dollars per traveler of up to about 25 participants from U.S. institutions (graduate students, post docs and junior faculty will be given preference) who will be presenting a paper at the conference. Since the funds are limited they will be assigned by order of application date. We are aware that unfortunately this sum will most likely cover only a fraction of the airline ticket but funds are limited. The travel funds are being provided by the U.S. National Science Foundation through the grant DMR 1922479.

Please note, because the travel grant was approved after many of the deadlines have passed, many people have had difficulty registering for the conference. However, registration for Statphys27 is open and uploads of abstracts to the conference will be open on April 17, 2019 for two weeks. https://statphys27.df.uba.ar/

To apply for travel support you will have to upload

  1. Your full name, U.S. institution and your position,
  2. the electronic reservation from the airline showing the cost of the ticket. Since this is an NSF grant, if possible, preference is given to use a U.S. carrier. If you do not, please explain the facts in the applied box,
  3. a proof of your registration to Statphys27
  4. After travel has been completed, accepted applicants will have to upload to this website proof of travel (either photos of boarding passes or pdf files of electronic boarding passes and the receipt of the travel ticket)

Applications will be accepted until Friday June 30, 2019 (9:00 p.m. CDT) or until all funds are committed. Accepted applicants will receive an email within 10 days of application. Accepted applications will have time to upload proof of travel until July 31, 2019 9:00 p.m. CDT (your acceptance email will contain a link to upload your proof of travel). Reimbursements will begin to be processed on August 1, 2019. You can expect to receive the reimbursement in the form of a check within a month of your reimbursement being accepted.

The Institute of Theoretical Condensed Matter Theory of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be glad to help U.S. researchers participate.
